Cade's First Game

I thought we might get rained out yesterday, but it cleared up in the afternoon, and the tee-ball Twins were able to play their first game.  They played well but were outscored by one run in the end...not that we're to be keeping track or anything.

Cade had been practicing at second base, so I was surprised to see him playing shortstop.  But he did well, and he got a few base hits as well.

Here's the game in pictures...

Warm-ups

Waiting for the game to begin

Huddle time (Cade is #12)

First at-bat

A hit!

Listen up!

The second-inning stretch?

This grumpy girl lit up when she spotted
Daddy arriving at the game.

I guess she just needed a hug.

Baseball Begins for the Twins

Both boys are playing for the Twins again this year, but again on different levels.  Tuesday night Luke had his first game, and I got some practice with my camera.  Lots of practice!
Batting practice

Warming up

There must have been a lull in
the action here.

Happy boy!

Cade couldn't wait to get into
uniform, too, so I let him wear
his Twins jersey from last year.

Huddle!!

I am determined that by the end of the
season this boy will have learned how to
eat a PB&J without getting it streaked
across his face!!

Batter up!

"Did you see that double, Mom?"
 I sure did!

He is by far the fastest boy on his team.
Just got good genes, I guess. :-)

He's fielding at shortstop again this year.

They're playing robbers and he's returning
her to jail (her seat).

YES!! Celebrating an out.

Charge the ball!

Calling the play.  As the oldest on the team,
the coach has been encouraging Luke to
take the lead on the field.

More robber play...her turn to capture him.

I don't think he caught it, but it was
a good effort.

What can I say?  They're goofballs.

Covering second.

Pep talk.

Another at bat - a single this time.

Ready to run.

Crossing home plate!

They lost the game 11-12, but it was a well-played game by both teams.  Lots to learn this season, and lots more games to play!!

Next...Cade's game tonight...if we're not rained out.

The Little Momma

She had dragged the new carseat from the kitchen over to the family room and was trying to hoist it onto the loveseat.  I didn't know what on earth she was doing, but she explained that she wanted to put her Baby Laura's carseat into the car because they needed to go to the store.

Here they are, all strapped in, driving to the store...

They have arrived...

And she's taking Laura out of her carseat...

Then we had to go find her Ergo so she could take her along into the store. Fun times!!

Some Time to Relax

Stephen has been saying that he wanted to have a relaxing evening just walking around the battlefield - this after a few weeks of a really busy work schedule.

So last night we packed sandwiches and made off for the Manassas Battlefield.  It was a great time for the kids to just run and play while we meandered along behind them, enjoying the beauty of creation.

The scenery around us - very old houses, cannons, and split-rail fences - was a reminder of the hard lives lived by those who occupied Henry Hill 150 years ago.  It made our "problems" seem so small in comparison.

The boys were having a great time climbing the cannons and jumping off...until one of them jumped and bumped his head.  Then we decided that we didn't want to swing by the ER on the way home and put a stop to the high-flying leaps.

So here they are **sitting** on the cannon instead...

They're a little hard to see, but just in front of the trees is a row of Confederate cannons...

Trying to get all three of them to look at the camera is a challenge I have not yet mastered...

I just discovered with my most recent update to Picasa that #1- picnik will be closing down in just 3 days, and #2- Picasa has added some cool new features!!  Here's one of them called Ortonish...

Same picture, different processing...

And the original picture...

Little girl with a silly face...

At least here she's trying to smile nicely...

I guess she's done being nice...

 My big boy...

My littler boy...

An uncooperative little girl... (Sheesh, I'm glad the baby won't be mobile for a little while!  Maybe she'll be a more cooperative subject!)

Learning some history of the tavern...

Cute!  She was so scared of the big dog that was making its way toward us (on a leash and well-behaved too) that she climbed up the side of the bridge and wouldn't budge until I pried her off and helped her past the dog...

Reading the history of the 85-year old Mrs. Henry who was bed-ridden in the farm house and was killed there during the battle...

She's holding her prized walnut...

Make that two walnuts...

The man with the plan...good plan, Honey!

This is a totally typical "Cade face"...if you look closely enough, you can almost hear the sound effects...

Here is another totally typical "Cade face"...tongue out!

On the side of the cannon, it showed the manufacturing date - 1853. Elsa really wanted to put the walnuts in and fire them out.  She couldn't understand why we couldn't and wanted to know where the men were who could load the gunpowder.
